Located 48 miles north and east of Las Vegas this is an incredible state park.
These mounds of red rock are the fossilized remains of 150 million year old sand dunes. Color variations are caused by the level of iron in the sand.
We loved it in the Valley of Fire. It certainly warrants a return visit. We headed back toward Las Vegas to hike Red Rock Canyon but awoke to this and decided it was time to head south.
